Final Drawing: Landscape

This image took roughly 1 hour using pencil for desired shading effects for the shadows and difference in tones.

This image could have worked out better if I paid more attention to the detail on the hut and chose that as my focal point, this would make me rethink my vantage point to make the image follow the rule of thirds for the best ending result. The shading worked well in the image for the sky in the background and the hills but not as well for the shadows in the for ground.

Final Drawing: Still Life

This drawing took roughly 1 hour 30 minutes

This is a detailed study and my final piece looking at reflections in liquids and glass, the shading on this is done really well showing difference in tones and the way light refracts and bends through the transparent objects.

The focal point is following the rule of thirds with the wine glass as the main focal point leading your eyes around the image looking at the other objects on the table, I used the rubber to get the desired highlights showing where the lights hit the objects.

Sky's and Sea's

This image took roughly 1 hour 20 minute

This horizon drawing was done using graphite pencil to get the best shading effect for the clouds, The technique used to great this piece was mostly shading and erasing the highlighted areas of clouds. The waves were done using a similar technique, by flicking the eraser in a semi circular pattern I was able to create the desired effect .

The shading done on the sea could have been better had I took the time and paid more attention to it, rather than all the other aspects of the drawing, the cliff side works really well in the image especially with the light reflecting off the sharp edges where the light hits.

Facial Anatomy, Expresion & Moods

This drawing took roughly 10minutes to sketch, my aim was to get as much information onto the page in the time frame given.

Even though the image is not complete, looking at the drawing you can see the emotions portrayed, the use of pencil shading to pick out differences in light and dark areas works well here with the long fast strokes from the nose to the eye, you really get a sense of where the light is coming from.

The proportions were slightly off but the shadings masked some of this by going over the lines multiple times.

This image took roughly 2 minutes and was a quick sketch to take down complex information in a very short time frame as well as capturing raw emotion.

The sharp fast lines here really bring out the hate in the models eyes, using this technique can really bring the image to life and allow the view to feel the emotion trying to be portrayed.

This image took roughly 2 minutes to draw, the aim was to capture the blank expression on the models face

The shadows at the top of the head and cheek bones create the illusion of the light shining from below, The proportions of this image are off by a bit and could have been improved if the time frame wasn't so short but as the time was limited and the information was more important than being precise this suffered.

Interior Landscape

This Drawing took roughly 1 hour 30 minutes and was drawn with graphite pencil to get the mechanical feel of the staircase.

This image works really well following the rule of thirds I was able to place my focal point at the bottom right of the page, this leads you up the stairs and across the landing and down to the open area. The angle of the stair work rather well although there are a few which could be moved a few degrees either direction. The right hand side of the image is very busy while the left rather quiet, and even though all the complex information is on the right, you can't help but focus on the lone sofas in the middle left.

The Shading is excellent but the problem is the solid lines are no longer solid, by going back over the blended shades with the pencil to define some of those needed characteristics the image could have got the better result.

Detail in Man-made Forms

This drawing took roughly 1hour to draw and Pencil was used to get the fine detail needed as well as the shading required.

This image is quite complex to look at and very hard to tell what it is unless you really concentrate, the left hand side of the image leads to the right side of the inside of a train, the valves and cogs are not very detailed yet give the impression of cogs and therefore work in this image. Most of the detail is on the shading of the cogs on the left hand side showing how the light is stopped by the large metal structures.

Final Drawing: Facial Anatomy

This drawing took roughly 45mins and was drawn using pencil.

The shadows casting underneath the chin really show the depth of the image, the way the hair flows across the head works well with the rest of the image. My view is drawn to the eyes of the image straight away glancing across the page to the flowing hair and down to the heart shaped necklace, the image has great composition the only thing which would improve the image is the proportions of the face.

The lips are too big for the face, and the nose seams slightly to wide but the image still works because of the use of shading where needed and highlights where the light is reflected.

Colour and Tone in Skin

This drawing took roughly 45minutes and was done in coloured pastels, I was trying to achieve the colour of skin tone.
This hasn't worked as well as it could have, the colours used are too "hot" and not enough blues and greens were used to balance the colours. The darker colours on the backs of the legs create the illusion shadows forming where no lights would be hitting. This works especially well under the neck and chin for really giving the image depth. The skin tone itself is a little to pink and could have done with being cooled down with a few cold colours.
